Train rams into tricycle, kills four in Lagos

There was pandemonium in Iju area of Lagos in the early hours of Tuesday when a Lagos Mass Transit Train rammed into a tricycle conveying four adult males and female, killing them instantly on the spot.

According to eyewitness account, a tricycle conveying four passengers from Abule-Egba to Iju had difficulty in crossing the railway level crossing at Iju, and got stuck in the rail track, leading to a collision between the onrushing train and the tricycle.

The collision led to the death of three male and one female passengers who were unable to get out of the tricycle. However, the whereabout of the driver of the tricycle remains unknown as at the time of filing in this report.

When contacted, the NRC Assistant Regional District Manager, Lagos, Engr. Augustine Arisa explained that investigations is still ongoing to know the actual cause of the accident.

“We are still investigating to know why the accident happened. However, it is important to note that any encroachment on the trains right of way is illegal,” Engr. Arisa told the Nigerian Tribune.

The four bodies have been moved to the mortuary by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).
