‘Trailblazer, Epitome of service’ — Aiyedatiwa celebrates Mimiko at 70

as Ondo stands still for Mimiko’s 70th Birthday

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, on Tuesday, described the former governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko as an epitome of service who promoted the interests of the people of the state through his laudable programmes.

Aiyedatiwa who stated this during a Special Divine Agenda Praise Evening held on at the Dome in Akure, to commemorate Mimiko’s 70th birthday, described Mimiko as a leader who served the state with distinction and left an indelible mark on its history.

The governor commended Mimiko for being a trailblazer who not only started well but ended his tenure on a high note, emphasizing that such a legacy is worthy of recognition, emulation and admiration.

According to him, the occasion and celebration of the former governor’s birthday should be seen as a joyful moment of reflection and celebration, saying Mimiko transformed the state within eight years.

Aiyedatiwa said, “Dr. Mimiko is a leader who transformed Ondo State through impactful projects and policies that touched the lives of our people in profound ways. His dedication to human-centred governance earned him the love and respect of the citizens.

“This celebration is a testament to the legacy he has built and the affection people have for him. It is indeed a rare blessing to witness such an honour while still alive.”

The Governor noted Mimiko’s efforts in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and social programs, saying the former governor remain a source of inspiration for the current administration and future leaders.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Mimiko described her husband as a visionary leader whose works have left a lasting imprint on the lives of the people.

Mrs Mimiko however urged the political class to emulate her husband and work towards leaving behind good legacies that would outlive them.

In his sermon, former Chaplain of Government House Chapel, Pastor Wale Akinfesoye, urged Mimiko to continue dedicating his life to God and the welfare of the people.

He described Mimiko as a man with a fear of God, noting that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, saying Mimiko was able to achieve much because of the priority given to people’s welfare and business growth in the state.

Akinfesoye however, charged those in positions of power to emulate Mimiko and consider the opportunity to serve humanity without any ulterior motive, fear of God, and have in mind that they would one day leave their positions.

In his response, the celebrant, Olusegun Mimiko, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ondo State and the organisers of the event for the overwhelming outpouring of love and appreciation.

Reflecting on his journey in public service, Mimiko said, “It is deeply humbling to be celebrated in this way. I am grateful to God, my family, and the good people of Ondo State for believing in my vision and supporting me throughout my tenure.

“This recognition motivates me to continue contributing to the development of our state in any way I can.”

Mimiko also acknowledged the role of his family in his achievements, singling out his wife, Oluwakemi, for her unwavering support.

Mimiko served as the Ondo state governor between 2009 and 2017 and became the first governor to have served for eight years in the history of the state.

Traditional Rulers at the event included the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo, the Owa of Igbara-Oke, Oba Francis Agbede and Olu of Ilu-Abo, Oba Olu Falae among others.
