Traditional rulers should assist FG to end killings in Nigeria —Gen. Onoja

GENERAL Laurence Onoja (retired) has called on traditional rulers to assists the Federal Government to end the incessant killings, by fishing out criminal elements threatening the peace of the nation.

The General, who made this called in Lafia while confirming on him the traditional title of “Mabudin Lafia Bobba” at the Lafia Emirate Council, yesterday (Thursday)

Expressing that for government to succeed in the fighting insecurity and to live up to its responsibility of securing lives and properties of the people, traditional rulers must help the government with vital information in fishing out the criminal ones in the society.

According to him, the title given to him is a serious recognition of his contribution toward the creation of Nasarawa State, appreciating the Emirate and the people of the state for the honour.

“To the people of Nasarwa state, we are grateful for the Emirate council of Nasarawa for recognising me with the traditional title. My family and I will treasure this title.

“My appeal to traditional chiefs nationwide, is that  they should assist the government to make sure there is security of lives in their various communities, because we have a lot of security challenges and if government should live up to its responsibility of securing lives and properties, the leaders of the communities supposed to help us to fish out the bad or criminal elements in the society.

“I think the traditional rulers have a prominent role to play in the security and unity of this country.

“In 1967, I sacrificed my life to joined the Army, and I fought the Nigeria civil world and I thank God that I am still alive today.

“So, I have given all my life to the unity of this country, and the remaining part of my life I would continue to contribute in whatever way the country and society want me to do.

Gen Onoja appealed to every to cooperate with individuals to help the government to solve the challenges of the nation.

He further used the medium to commend President  Muhammadu Buhari for the fight against corruption, saying that he has done well in the area and needs their support to succeed.
