The Ekiti State Council of Obas has been urged to decide on a traditional fabric that is unique and homogeneous to the state.

The Director-General, Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture, Ambassador Wale Ojo- Lanre made this call during an official visit to the council of traditional rulers at the House of Chiefs, old governor’s office, Ado Ekiti, recently.

He pointed out that, “it is a fact that we are homogeneous in language but also it is our belief that Ekiti State has special fabrics that are unique and of great ancestral value to the culture and tradition of the Ekiti people. I am thus utilising this opportunity to urge our traditional rulers to request that a fabric which all Ekiti indigenes will not only be identified with, but be proud to display anywhere to further reinforce the homogeneity of our state, be gotten as a matter of urgency.”

Ojo-Lanre, who was accompanied by his directors, intimated the traditional rulers of the functions of the Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture as codified in the Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture Law 2012, as assented to by Dr Kayode Fayemi, during his first tenure as the governor of Ekiti State.

He said that Governor Kayode Fayemi had the highest respect for the traditional institution hence, “has charged the Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture to ensure the reverencing of the traditional stool and enhancement of traditional culture, values, arts, sacred places  and heritage sites’.

Ojo-Lanre pointed out that his visit was not just a formality but rather an attestation to the fact that his council was established primarily to add value to the institution of traditional rulers and shoring up of the cultural influence of the royal fathers.

He  intimated the royal fathers of the strides of his council at documenting and profiling all the cultural festivals and heritage sites in the state for enhancements.

Responding on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Elekole of Ikole, Oba Adewumi Ajibade , who was the acting chairman of the meeting, commended Governor Fayemi for his visionary and revolutionary acts, particularly in the arts and culture sector. He pointed out that the visit by Ojo-Lanre was a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to the promotion of culture, enhancement of the arts and the protection of the pristine heritage of Ekiti people.

The Elekole said that the traditional rulers were impressed by the speech read by Ojo-Lanre where he exposed the steps taken so far by the Ekiti Council for Arts and Culture. He also assured the Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture of the support of the traditional rulers in the state.
