Traditional ruler laments infrastructure decay in Akoko Edo

Published by

The Otaru of Igarra, Oba Emmanuel Saiki,  has called on Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki to urgently set machineries in motion to address the infrastructural decay in Akoko Edo Local Government to give the people a sense of belonging in the present administration.

Oba Saiki  made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit on the governor at Government House, Benin City.

The Otaru of Igarra, who spoke through the Palace Secretary, elder Folorunso Daniel, described Akoko Edo Local Government as the oldest in the state, but decried lack of infrastructure in the area.

In the area of education, the Otaru appealed to the state governor to establish a higher institution of learning in the area, saying that the government of late Ambrose Alli tried to establish one, which was already gazetted, but never saw the light of day.

The traditional ruler, among other things, also decried the neglect of the Ojirami Dam which in the past provided water for the entire local government, the neglect of Igarra Cattle Ranch, as well as the deplorable state of roads across Akoko Edo Local Government.

The Otaru  also called on the government to look for ways of harnessing the vast solid mineral resources deposit in the area, to create job opportunities for the people of the area and improve the economy of the state.

Oba Saiki, however, thanked the governor for appointing two sons of Akoko Edo into key positions of his government and urged him to look for more deserving sons and daughters of the area to appoint into his cabinet, adding  that the area was full of intellectuals.

Responding, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, who received the Otaru’s delegates on behalf of the Governor,  thanked the traditional ruler for his support during the last election, stating that the appointments made so far by the present administration were based more on merit rather than on tribal sentiments.

He assured the traditional ruler that the government was working on bringing investors to the areas to harness the vast mineral deposit especially in the area of lime stone needed for cement production.
