Traditional medicine devt: Practitioners seek Buhari’s intervention

Published by

Traditional medicine practitioners in the country, under the auspices of National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP), have urged President Muhamadu Buhari to intervene in the leadership crisis rocking the association.

They said that the protracted dispute had derailed the association from the objectives for which it was set up.

This came as the experts raised concerns over what they described as under-utilization of traditional medicine resources in the country.

They said it was worrisome that the current administration was not looking at how to make money from herbal medicine as well as how citizens could get the best of health care delivery through it.

The experts, Dr. Suleiman Ekpeji; Chief Dr Zakaraya Oyedeji and  Chief Dr Nwuchukwu Charles, in a statement, lamented that despite the fact that National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) was formed on December 19, 2006, traditional medicine, instead of growing, was now shrinking.

They said there was the need for President Buhari to do all that was necessary so that the country could enjoy enormous wealth by reversing the current under-utilisation of traditional medicine resources in the country.

‎According to them, the National Health Law passed under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration already recognised the association as a body of health providers in the country.
