Trader docked for allegedly receiving stolen goods

A trader, Oyewole Sangogade, on Wednesday appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly receiving 18 bags of stolen rice, valued at N288,000 from a gang of armed robbers.

Sangogade, 39, of Aremo community in Ibadan, was facing a charge of receiving stolen goods.

The prosecutor, Insp. Adewale Amos had told the court that Sangogade on Jan. 3, at 9.00 p.m. at Aremo community allegedly received 10 bags of rice from one Sunday Adeniyi, a.k.a. Akuru, valued at N160,000.

Amos said that Sangogade received the rice, knowing same to have been stolen from one Afusat Farayola

He said that the accused was alleged to have received another eight bags of rice from the same Adeniyi, valued at N128, 000, the property of one Atoke Akinola.

The total amount of the stolen rice received by Sangogade was put at N288, 000.

Amos said the offence contravened Section 427 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Jejelola Ogunbona, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until June 5 for hearing.
