Total Exploration and Production Nigeria (TEPNG), has handed over a newly renovated science laboratory block of the Nigeria Navy Secondary School, Borokiri, Rivers State to the Nigerian Navy, Easter Naval Command.

In his keynote address at the commissioning and handing ceremony, Deputy General Manager, Community Affairs and Development, Mr James Urho said the project was part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of Total, the operator of the NNPC/TEPNG joint Venture.

He said the handing over ceremony marked a significant milestone in the oil company’s relationship with the Navy Secondary School in particular, and Eastern Naval Command in general.

“The completion and hand over of this Science Laboratory block is in line with our commitment to support the teaching and learning of sciences in our secondary schools. This is so because, we are an oil and gas company; ours is a technology driven business and technology is hinged on the study and understanding of sciences.

“It is another pointer to our commitment to enduring sustainable educational development of our people. There is no doubt in our mind that, having thought through the project and understood the basis for its nomination, you will not only take ownership of them, but will also guard them jealously for the benefit of the student community.

“Expectedly, we hope that students will leverage on this facility to work harder improve performances on the science subjects. This will be the greatest benefit that they and indeed the society can derive from this project,” he said.

Meanwhile, the management of TEPNG has urged secondary school students in Egiland, its host community in Rivers State to renew their interest in the study and understanding of English Language.

Deputy General Manager, Community Affairs and Development, TEPNG, Mr James Urho, gave the admonition while speaking at the 2017 NNPC/TEPNG Joint Venture quiz competition for Egi community secondary schools, held on Wednesday and Thursday.

He said the competition, aimed at supporting the state   government  in enhancing the knowledge base of students of secondary schools, was a demonstration of  Total’s commitment to support the development and growth of quality education in our  host communities.

“I believe this competition will serve to further encourage the  student’s interest in the Arts, especially in English Language without which it is nearly   impossible to understand other subjects,” he said.
