Minimum wage is the legally mandated lowest amount an employer must pay a worker per hour or month. It was established to combat worker exploitation and assist low-income families in meeting essential needs such as food, water, and security. 

However, minimum wage rates differ across cities and countries, typically being higher in advanced countries than in developing ones, reflecting the varying economic conditions and priorities in different regions.

Here are ten countries with highest minimum wage: 

1. Switzerland tops the list with a monthly  minimum wage of $4,215.

2. Australia follows closely with a monthly minimum wage of $2,461.

3. New Zealand takes the third position with a monthly minimum wage of $2,452.

4. Luxembourg takes the fourth spot with a monthly minimum wage of $2,438.

5. The United Kingdom ranks fifth with a monthly minimum wage of $1,952.

6. Belgium makes the sixth on the list with a minimum wage of $1,942.

7. Ireland becomes the seventh country with a monthly minimum wage of $1,870.

8. Netherlands ranks eighth on the list with a monthly minimum wage of $1,851.

9. Germany takes the ninth position with a monthly minimum wage of $1,838.

10. Rounding out the list is France with a monthly minimum wage of $1,734.
