Tips to help you stay active as a remote worker

Published by

To stay active as a remote worker, you must understand it comes at a price that can keep your health in a bad state if not properly managed. Sitting at home all day without engaging in healthy practices like walking, eating right, exercising etc. can affect your overall wellbeing.

How then can you create a balance that enables you to work productively and affords you time to engage in healthy practices?

1. Time organisation

You can manage and organise your time effectively by creating a schedule. A schedule will help you outline your tasks for each day and the time it would take to get them done; including breaks, exercise, and time to go out. Making it an everyday practice will keep you consistent and productive.

2. Compartmentalise moments

This means that to stay active as a remote worker, you need to create and allot time to different moments like work, physical activities, mental activities and others that will contribute positively to your well-being.

3. Eat right

Eating right requires intentional preparation that enables you to plan your meals and incorporate options that help you eat correctly. It’s often a common practice to eat junk more than half the time that you are working from home because of the illusion that you don’t have time to prepare your meals. Ensure that whatever you consume is nutritious and filling.

Also, don’t forget to drink water and eat fruits that have high water content. Other than this guide to ensuring that you are active as you work from home, you also need to interact with people. Let’s discuss this in the next point.

4. Keep in touch with people

It might be sometimes hard to stay active as a remote worker because more than half the time you get to stay indoors and get work done. Sometimes, you could get engrossed and forget that there’s a life outside your home. So, what can be done to change this narrative?

Stay connected with people – your neighbour, your friends, your family, your colleagues, etc through physical contact, video calls or text messages. It’s good for your soul.

5. Create boundaries

To stay active as a remote worker, you need to do away with factors that can cause distractions for you and negatively affect your productivity. You need to say no to requests from people when it’s not feasible and logical for you to entertain them or show up for them. Also, you need to keep in check activities that will waste your time and don’t matter on the grand scale of things. You must create a schedule, remember? Good.

Above all, remember that any measure that you put in place to lead a healthy lifestyle will pay off in the long run, even if you haven’t started seeing immediate results.
