Tinubu’s wife wins ‘Woman of The Year’, dedicates award to Nigerian women, youths

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been named Best Woman of the Year at the Independent Awards 2024, dedicating the honour to Nigerian women and youths.

Speaking at the Independent Awards 2024 Gala Night held on Saturday in Lagos, Tinubu praised the tireless contributions of women and young people to the country’s growth and development.

The former lawmaker, who was represented at the event by the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fatima Tajudeen, described Nigerian women and youths as the nation’s unsung heroes.

She said the award was dedicated to every Nigerian woman and youth contributing to the country’s progress.

Tinubu expressed gratitude to the event organisers and the board of Independent Newspaper for the honour.

“I receive this prestigious award with deep appreciation,” she said during her acceptance speech.

“This award will inspire me further to contribute my quota to national development,” she added.

A total of thirty-six individuals, organisations, government CEOs and managing directors were honoured at the ceremony for their various contributions to Nigeria’s development.

Other notable awardees included Governor Seyi Makinde, named Independent Man of the Year, and Chief Bisi Akande, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award 2024.

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State was named Governor of the Year 2024 (Urban Renewal), while Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River received the award for Economic Transformation.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State was recognised as Governor of the Year 2024 (Solid Minerals Development), alongside Governor Hope Uzodinma and others.

In entertainment, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie, was awarded Social Media Influencer of the Year for her impact on the industry.

In the business category, Otunba Mike Adenuga, Chairman of Globacom, was honoured. Others awarded included Charles Odi, Director General of SMEDAN, and Prof Abayomi Fasina of FUOYE.

The annual Independent Newspaper Awards recognises outstanding achievements across politics, entertainment, business, education, and other sectors.
