Tinubu’s son launches drug banks in 60 tertiary healthcare institutions

In a bid to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Nigeria, Seyi Tinubu has launched the establishment of drug banks in 60 selected tertiary healthcare institutions.

The intervention scheme, designed to provide essential drugs for a minimum of 10,000 indigent patients per selected tertiary health institution, aims to complement the federal government’s efforts in the health sector.

Speaking at the official commissioning of the intervention at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, Pharm. Ojeje Amin Onimisi, representing Seyi Tinubu, emphasised the importance of reducing Nigeria’s high rate of infant and maternal mortality. The project will also provide medical equipment and funds for research to improve pediatric patients’ health outcomes.

The national coordinator, Dr Benson Ayodele Cole, noted that tertiary hospitals were chosen due to their organized systems and infrastructure. The program will be expanded to secondary and primary care levels in general hospitals and primary healthcare centers.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of ABUTH, Prof. Ahmad Hamadu, applauded the initiative, stating it would alleviate the suffering of mothers and children, reducing infant and maternal mortality indices.

Seyi Tinubu also donated a solar-powered industrial borehole and launched a scholarship scheme for resident doctors, with Dr. Aisha Suleiman as the first beneficiary.

The National Coordinator for the intervention on education, Mrs Aisha Ololade, emphasised the importance of portable water in maintaining effective Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and reducing infant and maternal health issues.
