Tinubu orders immediate payments of pensions, other military entitlements

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate payment of a military salary increase along with three months of arrears and has also released funds for the payment of pensions and other owed entitlements to retired military personnel.

In a statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, Mr Henshaw Ogubike, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Muhammed Matawalle, confirmed that alerts regarding the three-month salary increase for military personnel have already begun to be received.

The Minister expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his decisive action in ensuring the release of the necessary funds for the payments.

Dr Matawalle also commended President Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired military personnel, emphasising that pension arrears owed to retirees would continue to receive critical attention.

The statement noted: “This initiative reflects the President’s dedication to enhancing the living standards of those who have served the nation.”

Furthermore, the Minister acknowledged the efforts and support of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, who was instrumental in the realisation of these payments.

Dr Matawalle urged the Nigerian military to remain steadfast in their duties, reassuring them that President Tinubu was fully committed to boosting their morale and providing the necessary support to combat insecurity in Nigeria.

“Despite initial setbacks, rest assured that Mr President will do everything within his power to uplift our military forces as they confront the challenges of insecurity,” he affirmed.

Highlighting the significant contributions of the Nigerian military in combating insurgency, terrorism, and other forms of criminality, the Minister reiterated the vital role that these brave men and women play in ensuring the nation’s security.
