Tinubu mourns Doyin Okupe’s passing

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prince Doyin Okupe, a veteran politician, medical doctor, and strategist who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s political landscape for over three decades.

In a condolence message released on Thursday, President Tinubu extended his sympathies to Okupe’s family, friends, and associates, acknowledging his significant contributions to national development.

“Dr. Okupe was a bold and articulate advocate for national progress. His wealth of experience and insight remained invaluable to the nation until his last days,” the President said.

A prominent son of Iperu-Remo in Ogun State, Okupe served as Special Assistant on Media to President Olusegun Obasanjo and as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan. Over the years, he played influential roles in multiple political parties, including the National Republican Convention (NRC), the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and, most recently, the Labour Party, where he served as Director-General of its 2023 presidential campaign.

Beyond politics, Okupe made notable contributions to Nigeria’s medical sector as co-founder of the Royal Cross Medical Centre in Lagos and as the publisher of Life Mirror, a health-focused newspaper.

President Tinubu also extended condolences to the government and people of Ogun State, particularly the Iperu-Remo community, recognizing Okupe’s enduring legacy in his home state.

He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for comfort for his loved ones during this time of mourning.
