Tinubu hosts Indian Prime Minister Modi at Aso Villa

President Bola Tinubu is hosting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Modi arrived in the Nigerian capital on Saturday evening and was formally welcomed by President Tinubu at the Forecourt of the State House around 10:20 a.m. on Sunday.

To honor the visiting leader, the Indian national anthem was played, followed by a Guard of Honour mounted by the Brigade of Guards.

Prime Minister Modi inspected the parade, which was capped by a 21-gun salute in his honor.

During the visit, the two leaders are expected to engage in a series of high-level discussions, including a closed-door meeting, delegation-level talks, and the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

These agreements aim to strengthen cooperation between Nigeria and India across various sectors.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the visit underscores efforts to deepen bilateral ties between the two nations.

“President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will seek to further enhance the relationship between Nigeria and India during their discussions,” Onanuga stated, noting that the MoUs would foster collaboration in key areas.

This visit marks the first by an Indian prime minister to Nigeria in nearly two decades, following Dr. Manmohan Singh’s state visit in 2007, which established a strategic partnership between the two countries.
