President Bola Tinubu has appointed six Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) to oversee federal government-owned hospitals in Akure, Gombe, Azare, Lafia, Maiduguri, and Kafanchan.
A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy) said each appointment is for a four-year term, effective from the date of assumption of office
The appointments, aimed at strengthening healthcare leadership and service delivery, include both new and reappointed CMDs across the institutions.
The newly appointed CMDs are: Prof. Olusegun Sylvester Ojo – Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State. A seasoned medical professional, Prof. Ojo was the pioneer Chief Medical Director of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital.
Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi – Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. He has been reappointed for a second term following an outstanding first tenure. His reappointment took effect on September 5, 2024.
Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum – Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State. Previously the Acting CMD, he is now confirmed as the substantive head. His appointment commenced on December 6, 2024.
Dr. Ikrama Hassan – Federal Teaching Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa State. A consultant physician, Dr. Hassan previously led the Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital before its upgrade to a teaching hospital.
Dr. Ali Mohammed Ramat – National Orthopedic Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State.
A renowned consultant in orthopedics and spine surgery, he will lead the newly established orthopedic hospital.
Dr. Haruna Abubakar Shehu – Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, Kaduna State. A consultant family physician, Dr. Shehu will oversee the newly established facility.
President Tinubu congratulated the newly appointed CMDs, urging them to uphold professionalism, accountability, and high service standards. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring accessible, quality medical services for all Nigerians.
