The Executive Director, Marine and Operations of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Olalekan Badmus has paid a maiden official visit to the Tin-Can Island Port and inspected all the Terminal Operators within the Port complex.
Speaking during the working visit, Mr. Olalekan Badmus charged the work force to support the Terminal Operators at all times “since the more money they get, the more revenue for NPA.
Speaking further Badmus asserted that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all operations must be provided to the Terminal Operators upon which their activities would be measured.
The NPA Executive Director, Marine and Operations also directed the Safety Department of Tin-Can Port to pay unscheduled visit to these terminals to determine the level of compliance with the SOP to the latter, otherwise of which appropriate sanctions should be applied accordingly.
Also, within the week, the Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services, Ibrahim Abba Umar, while on a working visit to Tin-Can port, expressed satisfaction at the quality of work done during the rehabilitation of Tin-Can Port Administrative Building, describing the work as top notch.
Engineer Umar promised to ensure that additional Air-conditioners and befitting furniture required to enhance the new Conference Room of the building will be provided alongside every other items necessary to make the building attain a respective standard.
The ED Engineering whose inspection took him from floor to floor of the building also visited the agency Building which he also commended for the quality of work done on it.
At the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) HQ at Osho drive Lagos, Engineer Umar while inspecting a building construction sponsored by NPA frowned at the Contractor handling the job, insisting that the contractor must step up his job or he will not be paid.
Earlier, the Port Manager Tin-Can Island Port, Mr Sylvester O. Egede had had briefed the ED M &O about the history, functions and recent activities of the Tin-Can Port.
Mr. Egede nformed the visiting Executive Directors about the need for additional Air-conditioners and furniture for the new Conference Room.
Both Executive Directors at the end of their tours were excorted to the Port’s finger jetty for their return journey to the Headquarters in Marina.
