Political thugs on Thursday unleashed terror on many, who stormed the Edo State High Court, Benin City, to witness the inaugural sitting of the Edo State governorship election tribunal on Thursday.
As early as 7:30am, the premises of the tribunal was filled with supporters of political parties contesting the results of the September 28 Edo State governorship election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While the hearing was ongoing, some supporters attacked perceived supporters of other parties, including a particular man, who was beating up and macheted.
The man, whose name was yet to be ascertained, was seen wearing a T-shirt inscribed with the name and picture of the PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
He was said to have received machete cut in the head and face and rushed to a nearby hospital.
The attackers also did not spare the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the governorship election, Mr Frank Ukonga, who said he lost his phone and other vital documents when attacked by thugs.
Ukonga, in a statement he signed, also alleged that he was beaten by thugs loyal to two youth leaders of a political party.
Still, some other persons were reportedly beaten up and shoved during after sitting of the tribunal.
At the close of hearing, some people were seen singing victory songs and abusing other parties.
Those who spoke to Nigerian Tribune at the venue of the tribunal regretted that political thugs were allowed to gain entrance into the venue, blaming police for not providing enough security at the venue.
