Three suspected armed robbery suspects killed by police in Ogun

Published by

THREE members of a robbery gang, last Saturday, met their waterloo when they were gunned down by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command after they had robbed a bush meat supplier at Fidiwo area, along the Lagos/Ibadan highway.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the suspected robbers attacked the bush meat supplier, one Jumoke Ogungbade, who had gone to the area to meet one of her suppliers.

It was further learnt that as the robbery operation was going on, policemen attached to the Owode-Egba Division were alerted, and they promptly moved in to save the situation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement made available to TribuneOnline, confirmed the incident.

DSP Oyeyemi said when the police received the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owode Egba Division, CSP Sheu Alao, led his anti-robbery team to the scene, where they engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, which lasted for about 30 minutes.

The police spokesperson said that at the end of the encounter, three members of the gang were gunned down, while the others escaped into a nearby bush with gunshot wounds.

He said a locally-made single-barreled gun, a short double-barreled gun, a single-barreled muzzle-loading gun, one live cartridge, a wristwatch belonging to the victim of the attack and N10,220 were recovered by the police.

DSP Oyeyemi said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, while praising his men for their gallantry display and quick response to the distress call, ordered for a manhunt of the fleeing members of the gang.

“The Commissioner of Police also appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals, traditional healers and other health officials, to report to the police if anybody with gunshot injuries is seen around their area,” Oyeyemi said.
