Published by

The trajectories and achievements of three African athletes who, against all odds, have recorded daring feats both in their careers and other life engagements will be the focus of this week’s edition of CNN African Voices sponsored by telecommunications giant, Globacom.

Kenya’s  award-winning Paralympics runner, Samuel Mushai; captain of the Kenyan national team, who is a defensive midfielder for Premier League  Club Tottenham Hotspur, Victor Mugubi Wanyama;  and a professional footballer who plays for Leicester City FC, Yohan Ben Alouane will be guests on the 30-minute magazine show (CNN African Voices).

The engaging programme (CNN African Voices) airs on CNN at 9:30 a.m. on Friday with repeats at 3:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 11:30 a.m and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. It will be aired at 10:30 a.m. on Monday and at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday as well.

Winning the 2017 Safaricom Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA), Male Sports Personality of the Year with Disability Award for winning gold medals in 5,000m and 1,500m at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016 are enough testimonials that disability was too insignificant to kill the giant in Samuel Mushai.

For Wanyama who set a record as the first ever Kenyan player to score in the UEFA Champions League, when he scored the first goal in Celtic’s 2–1 win over Barcelona on 7 November, 2012, it has been an impressive career all through. He crossed  to the Premier League club, Southampton for £12.5 million to emerge most expensive player sold by a Scottish club as at July 2013 and was subsequently signed on by Tottenham Hotspur in June, 2016.

Though a Tunisian by origin, Ben Alouane was sired and nurtured in France. He proceeded to represent France as a youth and afterwards switched to represent Tunisia at the senior international level. Alouane however fulfilled his childhood dream by donning the Tunisia shirt at the just concluded 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

The trio will be reminiscing on the various life lessons they have garnered and how they have stood on the pedestal of those lessons to mentor other ambitious African youths in their quest to make indelible marks in their various endeavours.
