Three arraigned over alleged destruction of property worth N4.5 million in Ekiti

Three men have been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged assault, destruction of properties and breach of peace in the state.
The accused, Olaleye Tunde, 33, Alake Ayodeji, 22, and Ogunlade Ojo, 38,  whose addresses were unknown, are facing a three-count charge of assault, destruction of properties and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the offence on September 7 around 3:00 p.m in Awo-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants and others at large assaulted one SP Isuku Victor(D.P.O Igede Division) while performing his lawful duty in Awo-Ekiti.

He also alleged that the defendants and others at large matcheted one Abiodun Ojo and Tunji Bamikole, while causing violence in the community, which caused the victims serious injuries.
Okunade said that the defendants and others at large, also destroyed the houses of one Chief Yusuf Badmos, Chief Suleiman Hassan, Mr Ismaila and Mr Abdulsalami Agbaje valued at N4.5 million.
He stated that the defendants and others at large also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace in the community.
According to him, the offences contravened section 356, 355, 451 and  249(d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the Court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Their counsel, Mr Lai Obisesan, urged the Court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The prosecutor opposed the bail application, saying the defendants were arrested at the scene of the crime, and the victims matcheted were badly injured, they may not show up in Court if granted bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, in his ruling granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Adegboye said one of the sureties must be a civil servant. He adjourned the case until October 18, 2019, for hearing.
