Majority of the health challenges we have these days could have been prevented if they were given medical attention and the unending conflict between sugar and potency is reaching new heights.
She said: “I am certain it is because of the excessive sugar intake that makes him ejaculate in 30 seconds…” but when asked where she got that piece of knowledge from, the narrative changed.
For starters, too much of everything is bad and for all its worth, sugar is not an exception.
Dr. Adebayo Afolabi of St Marello Catholic Hospital, Ibadan explained that it’s a common belief that excessive sugar consumption hinders sexual performance, though it’s not essential as true as people seem to make it look.

“When we consume sugary things in excess, there is usually a hormone that controls the sugar. The hormone is insulin and it is when insulin production is impaired or not functioning well that we start having problems with sugar.”
The total health of a man should be well documented and put into perspective before sugar can be fingered as a major culprit in slowing down sexual performance.
A medical expert imputed, while answering questions relating to the effect of ejaculation and stamina during sex that “someone suffering from Hyperglycaemia or high blood sugar is most likely to respond negatively to excess level of sugar and his erection/ejaculation is also to be adversely affected.

“Reportedly, many men (one in three) suffering from this condition (Hyperglycaemia or high blood sugar) find it hard to get a satisfactory erection in the first place; needless to say suffering from Hyperglycemia and taking a dose of sugar before intense activity like sex doesn’t seem a bright idea.
“Those who don’t suffer such issues are either likely to be unaffected by excess sugar or to get a short-term boost to their sexual experience; sugar providing ready energy and improving the bodily function in the process. Taking a small serving of sugar-rich food like banana, papaya, milk, sweets, dry fruits etc is recommended before sex.”
Dr Afolabi affirmed that “the link with sugary things and poor sexual performance is that with persistent intake of sugary things, there is increased build up of fat by the insulin hormone, which might tend towards obesity: Obesity in turn is a risk factor for diabetes and coronary heart disease; these two conditions might be associated with poor erection.
“Another way sugar intake can hinder sexual performance, in the long run, is that it increases the chances of developing cancers. And by extension hinders sexual performance. Sugar in itself doesn’t have a direct effect,” he noted.
Talking about myth again, it turns out that majority have adopted their elementary knowledge of English to deduce that if sugar is somewhat not all that sex-compliant, going for bitter pills might just provide answers to their pending sexual potency…
To this effect, the consumption of alcohol particularly for sexual performance has been on the rise as eight out of 10 men admitted to using alcohol as a booster.
“About alcohol,” Dr Afolabi began, “excessive intake is detrimental to virtually all the organs of the body, the reproductive organ inclusive. For instance, excessive alcohol intake can have effects on the oesophagus, brain, liver, kidney, and also the reproductive system.
“Alcohol intake usually is not a problem for sexual performance until it is taken in excess.
Some medical experts have even argued that one cup per day is beneficial to the heart. At reasonable quantity, it may even enhance sexual performance. But at high quantities, it is actually detrimental,” he warned.
