The dangers of laziness (II)

Last time we began talking about laziness. Laziness, the unwillingness to work, is a bad habit that has the tendency to plague anyone. When a person is lazy he is idle, indolent, slothful, inactive, under-active, sluggish, lethargic, remiss, slack, lax, lackadaisical. Laziness is the failure to act or perform as expected due to a lack of individual effort.

“Laziness will deny us achieving anything with our lives. It robs us of maximizing our potential and puts a lid on our abilities.

“Laziness presents a real danger to those who are guilty of this sin:

  1. Laziness leads to poverty – Proverbs 6:6-11; 10:4; 19:15

Not just physical poverty but emotional and spiritual poverty as well. Lazy people make no effort for physical things so they won’t do it for emotional or spiritual rewards as well.

  1. Laziness leads to shame – Proverbs 10:5; 26

A disordered life caused by laziness brings shame on those who depend on you. Those things that bring honor to a person come with effort. A distaste of making an effort brings the opposite: shame.

  1. Laziness leads to dissatisfaction – Proverbs 13:4

Eventually one’s laziness robs that person of the many joys in life that others have. Lazy people who don’t acknowledge the truth grow envious of others and depressed about their own condition.

  1. Laziness leads to slavery – Proverbs 12:24

Lazy people still want things but become indebted to others for them. It takes no effort to create debt, but lots of effort to pay them off. So not all poor people are lazy, but most lazy people end up being poor financially, emotionally and spiritually.

And this is not someone else’s fault! It is not bad luck, lack of opportunity or talent. It is just plain laziness!” Mike Mazzalongo

“Curiosity, rationalization, and laziness are no match against courage, self-control, and mental toughness.” – John Bytheway

“Luck is always the last refuge of laziness and incompetence.” – James Cash Penney

Here are a few bible passages on laziness.

“The diligent find freedom in their work; the lazy are oppressed by work.”Proverbs 12:24.

“You lazy fool, look at an ant. Watch it closely; let it teach you a thing or two. Nobody has to tell it what to do. So how long are you going to laze around doing nothing? How long before you get out of bed?

All summer it stores up food; at harvest it stockpiles provisions. So how long are you going to laze around doing nothing? How long before you get out of bed?”

Proverbs 6:6-9.

“He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.” Prov. 10:4.

“Through laziness, the rafters [of state affairs] decay and the roof sags, and through idleness [the roof of] the house leaks.” Ecclesiastes 10:18.

Laziness is a vice not to be associated with those who want their lives to count.
