Tension in Lafia town as fire guts filing station

Nat Son filing station in Lafia the state capital was on Monday morning engulfed with fire killing many, while others were burnt beyond recognition.

Findings revealed that a gas cylinder was left leaking for about 3 days ago.

Information revealed that the matter which was said to have been reported to the state fire service this morning where they came to ascertain the situation, and it was farther than an hour that they left the station the incident happened.

An Eyewitness, Adamu Saibu, told Nigeria Tribune that he was in his office when he heard a loud sound like an explosive, he raised his head and saw people scrambling and shouting for help. I then went closer to have a clearer view.

“I was able to rescue two burnt persons, which the Nigerian Road Safety Commission conveyed them to the hospital. Many people were burnt beyond recognition as other died.”

Another eyewitness, Jacob Amos, said: “I was inside an office when we heard a sound; we rushed out to see what happened only to discover that it was fire burning people as they were also running for their lives.

“A lot of people died, many were burnt beyond recognition from those we carried to the hospital.”

About nine vehicles were burnt, tricycle and many motorcycles were also burnt.

Meanwhile, the state police command is yet to make a statement on the incident.

Like wise, the Nasarawa State Fire Service Controller declined to make a comment at the moment, saying investigation is still ongoing.
