Tension in Jos as another 5 people killed

FOLLOWING the outbreak of violence in Jos, Plateau State last Friday which led to the death of 20 persons, the unfortunate situation escalated on Sunday leading to the death of five persons while vehicles and other valuables were also destroyed by irate youths on a revenge mission.

Even as the community where the vehicle of retired Major General Mohammed Alkali declared missing was found in a pond has been deserted for fear of invasion by the military.

The prevailing peace in Jos, the state capital was ruptured on Friday as a result of invasion of Rukuba area of Jos city by some elements suspected to be Fulani herdsmen who snuffed lives out 14 person in a midnight raid which also led to a protest in some parts of the state  capital during which human lives and property were lost.

Tribune Online learnt that there were renewed hostilities at the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos on Sunday following the death of a young man discovered at Celestial bridge which sparked off another row between the natives and the Hausa residing in the area.

It was learnt that in the melee that ensued properties including vehicles were damaged and set  blazed while two young men were killed in the open confrontation.

Before the security agencies arrived the scene of the incident, the unfortunate incident had spread to other parts of the the town ,  such as terminus, Bauchi road, Farin-Gada, Tina junction, Students village, Bauchi Ring road, T and T junction and adjourning settlements.

It was gathered that motorists plying these roads were molested and their vehicles damaged while three persons were allegedly killed between Bauchi road and students village

When contacted, the spokesman of the Special Task Force code name Operation Safe Haven, Major Umar Adam confirmed the tension and skirmishes in some part of the state capital but declined comment on the number of casualty.

“I know that some irate youths try to cause a problem today but our men are on top of the situations and have since restore normalcy to all affect areas. I have no report of any death but some people were wounded”

On the discovery of the vehicle of missing general, Major Umar said the people of the community where the vehicle was found need not to exercise any fear and debunked the insinuation that security agencies are planing to invade the community where the pond was cited.

“The same method and mechanism that led to the discovery of the vehicle in the abandoned mining pond would be explored to track down the perpetrators of the dastardly act. The people need not fear, investigation is still on”

The State government on Saturday relaxed the curfew imposed on the two troubled local government areas of the state to 10:00 pm to 6:00 am
