Tems cancels Rwanda concert amidst Regional tensions with DR Congo

Published by

Nigerian music sensation, Tems, has announced the cancellation of her highly anticipated concert in Kigali, Rwanda, citing concerns over rising tensions between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo).

The show, which was scheduled for next month, was expected to attract thousands of fans from across East Africa. However, ongoing political unrest and security concerns in the region prompted the artist to reconsider her plans.

Taking to social media, Tems shared a heartfelt statement addressing the decision:

“So I recently promoted my show in Rwanda without realising that there is an ongoing conflict between Rwanda and Congo. I never ever intend to be insensitive to real-world issues, and I sincerely apologise if this came across that way. I simply had no idea this was going on. My heart goes out to those affected. Conflict is no joke, and I truly hope and pray for peace in this time,” She said.

The singer’s candid apology resonated with fans, many of whom appreciated her acknowledgement of the situation and expressed understanding for the decision.

Diplomatic relations between Rwanda and DR Congo have deteriorated in recent months, with cross-border hostilities and political tensions leading to heightened security concerns. The escalating situation has affected travel, trade, and entertainment events in the region.

Despite the disappointment, Rwandan fans took to social media to express their solidarity with Tems. “We understand her decision, and it’s great to see her speak out with empathy. Peace is what we all want,” one fan commented.

Tems has promised to reschedule the concert once the situation stabilizes. Her team emphasized their commitment to maintaining strong connections with fans in Rwanda and the wider East African region.
