Published by

Nigerian singer Tems has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, becoming the first female African artiste to have a song earn one billion streams on Spotify.

The feat was accomplished with her hit single “Wait For U,” a collaborative effort with Future and Drake.

Released in 2022, “Wait For U” samples Tems’ song “Higher” from her EP “For Broken Ears” (2020).

The track’s massive success propelled it to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart upon its debut, making Tems the first African artist to achieve this feat.

The song’s accolades continued to grow, earning two Grammy Award nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, for Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance, with the latter being the category they won.
