Teenage boy docked for allegedly attacking man with broken bottle

A teenage boy, Aloh Stephen, was on Tuesday brought before a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja for allegedly attacking a man, Odey Simon, with broken bottle.

Stephen, 19, of Berger Camp, Kubwa, is facing a charge of causing grievous hurt, an offence he denied.

Police Prosecutor John Okpa told the court that Simon reported the incident at Kubwa Police Station on April 30.

He said the accused acted in a violent manner without any provocation by attacking the complainant with a broken bottle.

The accused allegedly inflicted deep cuts on the complainant’s shoulder and other parts of his body, he said.

The prosecutor added that the complainant was taken to Kubwa General Hospital where he spent N23,000 for treatment.

The offence contravened Section 247 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Mr Mohammed Marafa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

Further hearing has been adjourned until June 11.
