Technician docked over alleged break-in, stealing

A technician, Yemi Akinlaja, 54, who allegedly broke into an office and stole electrical fittings and apparatus worth N100,000, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Akinlaja, who resides at No. 12A, Araromi St., Oke-Isawo, Ota in Ogun, is facing a three-count charge of burglary, conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada told the court that Akinlaja on Feb.12 at 1.00p.m. broke into an office at No. 43, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos, belonging to Mr Bello Akeem.

Eruada said the defendant gained access through the aluminium door and stole electrical fittings and apparatus that were locked in the complainant’s office, valued at N100, 000.

“When the guard saw Akinlaja running away from the office, he called the attention of other guards to it.

“They gave the defendant hot chase and he was apprehended,” he said.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 287, 411 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 307 stipulates seven years jail term for the offence of burglary.

In her ruling, Magistrate M. I. Dan-Oni admitted the defendant to bail of N50, 000 with one responsible surety in like sum.

Dan-Oni ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed, show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have his address verified.

The case was adjourned until March 18 for a mention.
