THE recent inauguration of the Technical University, Ibadan, Oyo State, by the Oyo State government will make Oyo State to remain the hub and sociocultural melting pot of the Yoruba people of Nigeria and across the Diaspora.

The world-class university of technical education will pave the way for efficient and responsible use of science, technology, engineering and innovations in solving Nigeria’s societal problems.

It will also enhance the principles of unique innovation, research collaboration, exceptional service, integrity, excellence and uplift of the human condition.

Furthermore, the university is aimed at cultivating a cadre of technical professionals with the requisite entrepreneurial skills, who are capable of creating businesses that would provide employment for the state’s teeming youths.

Another unique thing about this university is its location within the business hub, that is, the Industrial Park and Free Trade Zone which is designed to accommodate no fewer than 175 manufacturing concerns, providing ready industrial attachment opportunities for students.

I am of the opinion that  this institution will provide the training and learning environment for imparting sound theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills in various trades and disciplines.

Also, it will produce exceptional graduates who will not only be socially conscious but also technically competent, turning round the fortunes of Oyo State and the nation as a whole.

I want to urge all well-meaning individuals, corporate bodies, professional bodies and non-governmental organisations to partner with the state government in ensuring the growth and development of this new citadel of learning.
