Federal and state governments, as well as old students of schools, have been urged to make sure that teachers get the rewards of their service while alive.
The 1978-83 set of Igbonnibi High School, Ila Orangun, Osun State, on Tuesday, made the call when they paid a surprise visit to the pioneer principal of the school, Mr Emmanuel Kolapo Moradeyo, at his Oremeji Baba’nla residence in Ibadan.
Represented by five members of the set, Hon Ismaila Kolawole, Alhaji Ganiyu Adebayo, Messrs Deji Oluwayemi, Ganiyu Ibraheem and Bamidele Isiaka, the ex-students said they were there to appreciate the good work their pioneer principal did with them about forty years ago as secondary school students.
They told the aged ex-principal that growing up, they had come to appreciate his worth as a disciplinarian with purpose who, they noted, was largely responsible for their individual successes in life.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Alhaji Adebayo, who is the Director of Finance of a bluechip book publishing company based in Ibadan, urged teachers currently in service to look at Pa Moradeyo’s record of service and let it be their guide.

He noted that the pioneer principal succeeded in putting the school on the right footing which has seen it weathering all storms of development over the decades.
Other members of the delegation spoke one after the other and noted that at 85 years, the ex-principal was being celebrated by his products as proof that teachers’ rewards are not and should not be in heaven. They described their presence in his house as an appreciation visit.
The ex-principal’s son, Mr Femi Moradeyo who responded on behalf of his elated father said he was also a product of the school noting that he and the family were exceedingly happy to see their father being appreciated by his ex-students almost 40 years after their graduation.
