This is as she raised alarm over the rising number of quackery in the business of education in the country.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos recently, however, Ige described the renewed call for the teaching of foreign languages in schools as vital part of the holistic preparation of young Nigerians for global relevance.
She said that children should not only be equipped with diverse educational but also linguistic tools in order to compete favourably in the global village.
“We keep talking about global relevance but we fail to understand the instrumentality of foreign languages.
“For are we to achieve this, it is important for our children to be able to speak other languages besides English so that the society can begin to have holistic children that will portray it in a good light,” she said.

And lamenting the proliferation of unskilled educators and administrator taking up education as a business venture in the country, Ige stressed the effects on the academic development of the children will be incalculable if not nipped in the bud.
“Many people are into the educational sector with the hindsight of business. The educational system is not run that way because it is something you might have to invest up to 5 to 15 years before actually seeing proceeds.”
“These unprofessional educators do not know that education is prominently about moulding lives of the child for the future, not for people who are no patient and money conscious.”
“The people that are coming in are not coming with passion for the children and consequently not keeping the children in a place where they will be holistically formed in the future,” she concluded.
