The Takum Local Government executives committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied involvement in the purported expulsion of David David Jimkuta, the senator-elect for Taraba South senatorial district.
The party officials made their stance clear on Monday in Jalingo, responding to a letter that claimed Jimkuta had been expelled from the APC over anti-party activities.
The executives, led by Chairman Alhaji Mijinyawa Salihu and Secretary Hon Bulus Sabo, declared that those responsible for the alleged expulsion were not APC members and therefore did not have the authority to expel a genuine member of the party.
The Nigerian Tribune reported that on Saturday, Mr Sirajo Sallau, the chairman of the APC Takum local government, signed a press release announcing Jimkuta’s expulsion.
The executives of the Takum Local Government APC, however, described the purported expulsion as a criminal act committed by a group of criminals who were posing as the party’s EXCO for Takum local government.
“We wish to state here that APC in Takum local government area of Taraba State has no factional executive. We equally want to put on record that the group who signed the purported expulsion of our Senator-Elect are not members of APC in Takum local government.
They are rather some mercenaries recruited from an opposition party by some aggrieved members of the party who lost out in both primaries and the governorship elections of the 2023 polls,” said Salihu and Sabo.
The executives stated that they had passed a vote of confidence in Jimkuta, noting that he had worked tirelessly to ensure the APC’s victory in the just-concluded governorship elections.
According to them, the accusation of anti-party activities levelled against him was both laughable and criminal.
They also informed the public that Jimkuta was in discussions with APC chieftains and other stakeholders from the southern zone to reconcile all aggrieved members and ensure the party’s unity in the zone for future elections.
“We urge the general public and party loyalists in the southern senatorial zone to disregard the purported expulsion of our Senator-Elect as it is the handiwork of some mischief makers who are bent on destabilising the party on selfish grounds,” said Salihu.
