Taraba peace committee condemns attacks, killings along Takum/Wukari road

The Taraba Independent Peace Committee has condemned the continued attacks and killings along the Takum/Wukari road by suspected bandits.

Tribune Online reports that six travellers, including a driver, were attacked and killed on Monday along the Takum/Wukari road by suspected bandits.

In a press release issued by Prof. Talla Ngarka, Chairman of the committee, the committee expressed displeasure over the relentless attacks and killings that have plagued the Takum/Wukari and Takum/Katsina-Ala roads, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives and the kidnapping of many in recent times.

“The Taraba Independent Peace Committee is deeply saddened and outraged by the relentless attacks and killings that have plagued the Takum/Wukari and Takum/Katsina-Ala roads, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives and the kidnapping of many in recent times. Just today, gunmen once again emerged from the bushes to unleash terror on travellers.

“We have learned that the victims of this latest heinous act include the following:

Tanko Danjuma (m), 45 years, of Yola Road, Takum, Tribe: Jukun
Kabiru Gambo Limam, 45 years, Hausawa
Muktar Usman (m), 45 years, of Angwa Maje-Takum
Gambo Andemi (m), 38 years, of No. 5 Tared Road, Tribe: Kuteb Takum
Abba Bulus (m), of General Hospital Takum, Tribe: Mumuye
Samuel Pius (m), 50 years, of Mammy Market Army Barracks Takum, Tribe: Tiv
“This attack comes only a few weeks after the brutal murder of the Gara of Chanchanji, a respected traditional ruler on the same road. These consistent and coordinated acts of violence have left the communities in the area in a state of fear and despair.

“We strongly condemn these senseless killings and call on the governments of Taraba and Benue States to urgently collaborate and take decisive action to address the insecurity that has become rampant in these areas.

“The safety of our citizens should be the highest priority, and it is imperative that both state governments work together to restore peace and order.

“We demand increased security presence and intelligence gathering along these roads to prevent further attacks. It is also crucial that the perpetrators of these crimes are apprehended and brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others.

“The continuous bloodshed must end, and it is only through united and concerted efforts that we can ensure the safety of our people and the prosperity of Taraba State.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the peaceful repose of their souls.

“It is our collective hope that their deaths will not be in vain but will instead galvanise all relevant stakeholders to act swiftly and decisively to end this cycle of violence and bloodshed.”
