A pipeline security surveillance company, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), operated by Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has embarked on fixing some bad roads in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The move, it was learnt, is to complement Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda in returning the lost glory of the commercial nerve centre of the state.
The board of the company, chaired by Tompolo, reportedly took the decision to repair some strategic roads in the commercial city at a meeting held sometime in May as part of its corporate social responsibility.
It was gathered that the board of the company was worried over the deplorable state of some critical roads in the area and the plight of road users and residents in general.
For this, a construction company was hired and mobilised to the sites to kick-start the initiative aimed at complementing Governor Oborevwori’s developmental strides in the state.
Tribune Online reports that the roads in Bendel Estate, an upscale and elitist settlement in the city, had been in bad shape over the years, ingloriously neglected by successive state and local authorities preceding Oborevwori’s administration.
Findings revealed that the roads were littered with deep craters and deep potholes, particularly at a spot by the NNPC Junior Staff Club, thereby becoming a nightmare to residents and visitors.
However, our correspondent, who visited the area on Wednesday, reports that the plight of road users and commuters in the area has been assuaged, as residents and motorists have heaved a sigh of relief.
It was observed that the main road leading to the estate, from the junction at Avweniyare Filling Station down to the terminal point, as well as the adjoining roads, has been fixed and tarred.
A commercial tricyclist, at Bendel Estate, Mr. Ezekiel Akpofure, told our correspondent how smooth it has become
to glide around Bendel Estate after Tompolo’s intervention.
“We are happy and joyful that Tompolo has come to our aid. We have been suffering over the years, spending all our earnings on the repair of our Keke.
“Our appeals to a former Chairman of Uvwie LGA, Mr. Ramson Onoyake, when he was in office, fell on deaf ears. Mr. Onoyake merely did some shoddy work at a point but Tompolo has come to rescue us.
“We now operate on smooth and well-tarred roads in Bendel Estate. We can now save some that we used to expend regularly on the repair of our Keke. We are happy and grateful to Chief Tompolo,” Akpofure added in excitement.
Another commercial tricyclist in the estate, Seidu Abdullahi, who hails from Kano State, expressed joy over the repaired road.
According to Abdullahi, “Initially we thought the roads were being repaired by the government because we didn’t see anything to suggest that a private individual or company could be responsible.
“We only got to know that Chief Tompolo asked his company to do this (repair of roads) for us in Bendel Estate, after so many enquiries.
“We are so grateful to him for this rare show of humanity. I have been operating my Keke in Bendel Estate for five years, this is the first time I am finding it easy to operate because I now drive on smooth roads.
“We are poor people; we don’t have anything to offer Chief Tompolo other than to pray for him and his team that God continues to grant them good health and abundant prosperity.”
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of TSSNL, Chief Keston Pondi, could not be reached on his mobile line to attest to the veracity of the claim that Tompolo was actually the brain behind the repairs.
However, sources close to the company confirmed that the TSSNL is responsible for the funding of the rehabilitation works on the roads.
“I can tell you that Tantita is responsible for the repair of the roads in Bendel Estate but you know that the Chairman (Tompolo) the Vice Chairman, Engineer Mathew Tonlagha and MD, Chief Keston Pondi, do not like a public show of philanthropic gestures.
“Whenever these kind-hearted and God-sent personalities are used by God to help humanity in any form, they don’t like to advertise or go to the public to announce what they have done,” a source offered a response.
