Tambuwal’s deputy calls for unity among PDP members, submits governorship form

Sokoto State deputy governor, Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to be united ahead of the party’s primary election in the state.

Dan’Iya is one of the front-runners in the forthcoming primary having declared his intention to succeed his boss, Aminu Tambuwal, in the forthcoming general election.

In fulfilment of the requirements for the contest, Dan’Iya, on Wednesday submitted his ‘Expression of Interest’ and ‘Nomination Form’ to become the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer in the State’s Gubernatorial elections.

By the party’s guidelines, internal screening of all gubernatorial candidates is also scheduled to come up later this month.

The deputy governor is a grassroots politician who began his political career as a Council Chairman and has been in mainstream politics for decades.

Speaking after submitting the forms, Dan Iya, acknowledged the role played by Gov Tambuwal in the politics and development of the state, which he said has laid a solid foundation and provided a level-playing ground for all aspirants to contest for various positions from bottom to top, praised God and lauded the governor being a loyal party man whose paramount focus is for the party to remain one, indivisible entity.

“As I submit my forms today, credit goes to my party, the PDP, and even higher credit to my Principal, Governor Tambuwal, the ‘Peoples’s Governor’, because without his political acumen in providing equal opportunity for party members, we couldn’t have trooped out to purchase forms to contest for various positions at various levels,” he said.

Dan Iya also used the occasion to encourage party members to put the people and the party’s interests above all other interests. “Let us play by the rules. PDP is one big family and nobody should be allowed to do anything that would ridicule the tenets of the Party and the laws of the land,” he added.
