Take advantage of various opportunities in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu tells youths

Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on youths to take advantage of various opportunities that abound in the state to fulfil their potentials.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made the call on Tuesday while speaking at the one-day youth sensitization programme organised by the Office of the First Lady themed: “Youths and Moral Values in an Evolving Society: Challenges and Recommendation,” at De-Blue Roof, LTV Premises, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

The governor, while making the call, disclosed that the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) had intervened in over 40, 000 startups, saying some people had given them soft loans, other things to help them in their businesses, even as he declared that the opportunity was available irrespective to residents of Lagos, irrespective of ethnic background.

“The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund has intervened in over 40, 000 start -ups. Some people have given them soft loans, some they have given grants directly, some businesses development documents so that they can indeed develop. It is available irrespective of who you are where you are from provided you are a resident of Lagos,” he said.

The governor assured that the state would continue to create an enabling environment and space for youths in governance, adding that it was working on ensuring curricula of higher institutions reflect future realities to prepare youths for future jobs, as part of efforts to empower the youths.

In her opening remarks, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State governor, said the programme was aimed at sensitising about 143 groups participating in the programme on the need to inculcate moral values, despite the challenges in Nigeria.

Dr Sanwo-Olu, while welcoming the dynamic youths selected from both the formal and informal sector, enjoined them to be patient, disciplined and do the needful to make Nigeria great, even as she encouraged them to be abreast with what was happening in their localities.

Also speaking, the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said there were many youths in the present government, urging youths to come to the table with productive things, add value to the society and be part of the solution.

He also urged them to have the ability to process information so that they could do well in life, adding that there were no shortcuts to success.

Guest lecturers at the event, who include, Special Adviser to Governor on Education, Tokunbo Wahab; President YEARN Foundation, Sola Joseph, who spoke on the topic, “Youth Engagement and Empowerment: A panacea for restiveness and societal Malaise,” urged the youths to give the programme maximum attention.
