S/West and PDP national chaimanship

Published by

NigeriaNs must be shocked by the shenanigans going on in the South-West with regard to the race for the national chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Of the geopolitical zones in the country, only the South-West is yet to produce a national chairman for the party once described as Africa’s largest.

I am in complete agreement with the view that Nigeria needs a vibrant opposition to consolidate the gains of democracy.  It is in this regard that I believe that PDP affairs are national affairs.

The contenders for the  position of PDP national chairman in the South-West need to reflect deeply on the implications of their in-fighting and disunity.

As important players in their own rights, the aspirants must realise that they cannot all stick to their guns and expect the party to move forward.

They should sit down as sons of Oduduwa and work out an arrangement whereby the best among them will be put forward for the position.

The South-West is too important to be sidelined in the affairs of PDP.

Whatever its errors, the party has no doubt made notable contributions to national development.

A PDP led by a chairman from the South-West, the home of Nigerian intellectualism, certainly has a lot to offer the nation.
