Sustainable development: Oyo will compete with Lagos by next decade — Commissioner

Published by

Oyo Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Dotun Oyelade has posited that the state is progressing at such a pace that it will compete with Lagos State in about the next 12 years.

He, however, said this would be achieved if the administration after that of Governor Seyi Makinde aligns with the present blueprint for sustainable development.

Oyelade made this argument at the inauguration of a new radio station, SEAP FM 89.1 at Okeho, Kajola local government area of Oyo state.

He listed some of the areas of comparative advantages of Oyo compared to Lagos and other neighbouring states as its landmass, arable land.

He held that Oyo had a landmass of 28,454 square kilometers arable land, about eight times larger than the size of Lagos.

Oyelade said this potential was known to investors who continue to set up businesses and other ventures in the state.

The commissioner said the state boasted of a booming economy evidenced by expansions in real estate and hospitality businesses and increase in number of radio stations.

On its part, he said the state continued to provide the enabling environment through strategic construction of roads and other infrastructure to the tune of 200kilometres of roads.

Speaking, chairman of the radio station, Dr. Oladokun Olatunde, said the radio station will not only keep the people of his Okeho hometown and environs informed, but the entire state.

Among those present at the event were the Onjo of Okeho, Oba Rafiu Osuolale Mustapha; member representing Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola federal constituency, Honourable Oyesina Oyedeji; traditional rulers in Oke-Ogun zone; veteran broadcaster, Yemi Sonde; Chairperson, Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, Mrs Dọtun Olaitan.
