Two individuals have suffered injuries of different degrees following an incident where a suspected suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to his body near a mosque in Biu Local Government of Borno State.
ASP Daso Nahum, the state Public Relations Officer, confirmed the occurrence of the incident on Monday.
Nahum disclosed that the injured victims have been promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention.
The incident unfolded around 8 pm on Sunday, coinciding with the time when Muslim worshippers were engaged in their nightly prayers.
He said, “The male suicide bomber, who was suspected to be heading to the mosque, detonated the Improvised Explosive Device close to the roundabout, killing himself.
”Two passersby who were wounded by the explosive were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.
”A combined team of security personnel was immediately deployed to the scene of the incident to restore normalcy.”
The police boss, however, urged the people to heighten their level of vigilance, especially during this period of Ramadan when most Muslim faithful are observing late-night prayers.
He said, “People should make sure that they are vigilant and should not hesitate to report any suspicious moves to the security agencies.”
