Mrs Omogui's car that was shot during the robbery incident.
Edo State Police Commissioner, Haliru Gwandu, has disclosed that three suspected armed robbers who robbed and shot Mrs Grace Omogui, mother of a former Manager of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mrs Ifueko Okauro Omogui, have been arrested.
He gave the name of the suspects as Austin Orene, Isaiah Ngbeken and Esogie Aigbede, adding that a double barrel cut-to-size gun, two single-barrel cut-to-size gun and live cartridges and assorted handsets were recovered from the gang.
According to the Police Commissioner, Mrs Omogui, who died in Lagos on Saturday, was robbed at a gun point on October 24, 2016, and not during the weekend as widely speculated by a three-man gang while returning from the bank.
Mr Gwandu disclosed that the armed robbers were arrested on October 28, 2016, within the Benin metropolis.
He said the armed robbers trailed the retired Magistrate from the bank located on Sapele Road in Benin to a spot close to her residence and shot at the tyres of her car, forcing her driver to stop.
He further said that the 80-year-old woman declined to release to the robbers a blue bag containing the sum of N2million, and dragged the bag with them, forcing the robbers to shoot her in her thigh.
He pointed out that the late Madam Omogui was first taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where she was treated and discharged, adding that the woman was fortunate that the gunshot did not hit her bone.
He, however, added that since the death of the woman was connected to the robbery on October 24, 2016, police will advise the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) to change the case of armed robbery preferred against the suspected armed robbers to murder.
When Nigerian Tribune checked at the residence of the late Omogui located off Boundary Road, Benin City, a neighbour informed that Mrs Omogui was taken to Lagos on Thursday and died on Saturday, adding that she was never herself after the armed robbery incident.
