Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed a 46-year-old health worker, Akinola Oyabiyi, in Eleyowo community, near Akure Airport, in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Oyabiyi was reportedly returning home in his vehicle on Tuesday night when the assailants stopped him around 8 p.m. and shot him.
According to a source, he was suspected to have attempted to escape abduction when the hoodlums shot him at close range. He later died due to severe blood loss.
Following the attack, the perpetrators fled the scene, leaving the father of four in a pool of blood. It took some time before help arrived.
The source added that the deceased was rushed to the hospital in an attempt to save his life but, sadly, was declared dead upon arrival.

This incident comes just weeks after five farmers were killed in the same area, and two interns from the Federal School of Agriculture in Akure were abducted last Saturday.
The source disclosed that the case has been reported to the police, who have assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident, saying, “We are still on it.”
