Suspected Fulani kill prisoner in Benue

There was pandemonium at the mini prison located along Jato Aka-Kashimbila Road in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday as a result of the killing of a man serving jail term at the prison.

Sources told Metro that the victim, along with other inmates, had gone to the stream around River Katsina Ala to have their bath when suspected Fulani herdsmen launched an attack on them.

According to the source, “it was gathered that the inmates were bathing by a stream when the suspected Fulani invaded the area and shot at them. Unfortunately, bullet hit one of them and he died on the spot.”

His remains, according to source, had been deposited at NKST Hospital, Jato Aka mortuary.

Benue State Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent of Police Moses Yamu, who confirmed the report, said that other inmates had been evacuated to Gboko Prison.

He added that investigation was ongoing.
