Suspected cultists appear in court for allegedly displaying dangerous weapons

SEVEN suspected to be members of a secret cult, on Wednesday appeared in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly displaying dangerous weapons, stealing and breach of peace.

The police charged Ojo Mojeed Jimoh, 27; Taiwo Jimoh, 21; Hammed Adebayo, 22; Adeniyi Abass, 18; Michael Segun, 18; Oladosu Moses, 15, and a 16-year-old, with three counts of conspiracy, belonging to an unlawful society, displaying dangerous arms.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Akpan Ikem told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. at Shibiri, Ajangbadi area of Lagos.

Ikem said the accused conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace by displaying dangerous arms.

He also alleged that the accused who took part in a street riot, stole one Itel P31 handset valued N37,000, Techno W1 valued N17,000 and N15,700 cash, belonging to Anthonia Emeka.

Ilem said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 411, 43 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Patrick Adekomaya admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Adekomaya ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until April 4 for the mention.
