TEN suspected cultists and two native doctors, Babatunde Rufai and Ariyo Elegbede have been arrested by the police in Lagos State in connection with the last week killing of a police sergeant in the Ijaiye area of the state.

Some of the suspects, however, denied being cultists, while also denying their involvement in the killing of the police officer.

The ten suspects, who were arrested by the operatives of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad were on Wednesday paraded by the state commissioner of police, Imohimi Edgal

The deceased police officer Collins Esiabor was last week hacked to death by angry youths, who were protesting the death of one of them.

The police boss identified the suspects as Adewunmi Suleiman Omoba Idowu, Olarewaju Hammed, Ransom Adewuye Adeyanju Anu Akinola and (Ige Pau

The police boss described the killing of the policeman as ” shocking” adding that the slain policeman and his colleagues had gone to the scene of the incident for ” peace ”

CP Edgal told newsman that “I assured Lagosians that I would leave no stone unturned in unravelling the suspects, I am happy to announce that ten key suspects had been arrested and among the suspects is their herbalist who helped the principal suspect extract bullet from the injury he sustained while struggling to take the deceased policeman’s rifle.”

The police boss also stated that “The principal suspect had been traced to a town in Ondo State and he would be arrested very soon. One of the suspects during interrogation revealed that they are members of the dreaded Aye cult group.”

He also added that “On the fateful day of the attack it was also revealed that the suspects were on their way back from where they went to bury their member whom they thought was killed by the police and decided to attack the patrol team”

” But that their member died having sighted the policemen and tried to escape during which he missed his step and fatally injured himself.” the police boss added.

One of the herbalists, Rufai told the Tribune online that he neither prepared any charm for the cult members knew anything about the clash that led to the death of the policemen.

The native doctor said “I have not come across any of the youths before; I was inside my house sleeping when police came to arrest me that I was the one preparing charms for them. At my age, I don’t know what I don’t have anything to gain preparing charm for the youths.”
