Suspected Boko Haram hitman, Umar, arrested in Lagos

A dreaded hitman of the Boko Haram terror group, Usman, said to be the brain behind the 2015 Kuje and Nyanya bombings in Abuja has been arrested in Lagos.

Umar, it was gathered was arrested by the operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Response Team (IRT), in Lagos.

A proud Commander of IRT, Abbah Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police who celebrated Umar’s arrest on Thursday, as a victory for his team on his social media handle, wrote, “Today is one of the happiest moments of my Life.  Kudos to Nigeria Police force, Kudos to IGP Ibrahim Idris, Kudos to IRT.”

Umar was described as “the most deadly and most wanted Boko Haram leader in Abuja, and the mastermind of the Kuje and Nyanya Abuja bombings of 2015, gang leader of Galadimawa Roundabout attack in which seven police officers were killed.”

He was also said to be the mastermind of other attacks in Abuja, which include the Lugbe police officers killer; Gwagwalada area police killings, while Umar was also said to be the “overall commander of Edo and Ondo states multiple bank robberies, and several killings in the Okene area of Kogi.

The security operatives were said to have launched an organised search for Umar, who was said to have lost one of his eyes, when he led others as a grand commander to the jailbreak of the prison in Niger State early in the year, after which over 100 prisoners escaped.

The notorious Umar was said to have fled Abuja, three weeks ago, with bullet wounds, after an encounter with IRT operatives, but four suspected members of his gang were said to be arrested with the recovery of four AK 47 rifles and hundreds of ammunitions.
