The Supreme Court of Nigeria has announced a valedictory court session in honor of the late Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola (Rtd), scheduled for Monday, November 11, 2024.
According to a statement by Dr. Festus Akande, the Supreme Court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, the session will take place in the main courtroom at 2:00 p.m.
Justice Ayoola, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 20, 2024, at the age of 90, was born on October 27, 1933, in Ilesha, Osun State.
He began his distinguished career in the judiciary with an appointment as a judge in the High Court of Western Nigeria in 1976 and later served as a Justice of the Supreme Court from November 25, 1998, until his retirement on October 27, 2003.

Throughout his career, Justice Ayoola held several prominent positions, including Chief Justice of The Gambia, President of the Court of Appeal in The Seychelles, and Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, will preside over the special session, leading the tribute to Justice Ayoola, with other key figures in Nigeria’s legal community expected to pay homage to his legacy.
