Almost five years after the stool of Eleruwa of Eruwa was declared vacant following a Supreme Court verdict which ordered the sack of Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola, after spending 21 years on the throne, youths of the town under the aegis of Eruwa-Ojoko Youth Development Mission, on Thursday staged a peaceful protest to demand a new traditional ruler without further delay.
The youths, who barricaded major roads leading to the town from neighbouring cities and towns with burnfire, and bearing placards, are calling on relevant authorities to expedite action on the process of enthroning a new traditional ruler as soon as possible
Speaking at the Eleruwa palace, located at the Oke-Oba area of the town, the President, Eruwa-Ojoko Youth Development Mission Movement, Kunle Adebola, said: “We, the entire members of Eruwa-Ojoko Youth Development Mission, on behalf of the whole populace of Eruwa Land through this peaceful protest appeal to relevant stakeholders involved in the process of enthroning a new Eleruwa to please expedite action on the process.
“The absence of an Oba in Eruwa has adversely affected the growth of the town economically and socially. While we remain calm, law-abiding and not ready to take laws into our hands on this matter, we hope that this appeal shall be given accelerated response and prompt action within the possible shortest space of time.”
The youths later took the protest to the secretariat of Ibarapa East Local Government, where the chairman, Mr Kazeem Arogundade, appealed to them to remain calm, while promising them he would ensure that the appropriate authorities concerned would be notified and expressed optimism that prompt action will be taken on the matter.
