Support me to realise my lifetime ambition, Tinubu tells Senate APC Caucus

Published by

The National Leader of the APC and presidential aspirant on the platform of APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has made a personate appeal to the Senate APC caucus to assist him to realise his lifetime ambition of becoming President of Nigeria.

Tinubu made the appeal on Wednesday in Abuja when he met with APC Senate Caucus as part of his consultations with critical stakeholders ahead of the presidential election slated for 2023.

While explaining why he was at the National Assembly, Tinubu said: “I came for your counsel and partnership, I cannot do it alone without your support and I cannot seat at home despite the fact that I have friends in the Senate.

“I solicit for your support for the nomination of my lifetime ambition to be president of Nigeria.”

He further told the APC Senators that contrary to criticisms from some quarters, he is a well-learned person.

He said that “In spite of people stabbing me at the back, my belief in God and determination will see me through.”

“I want to beg you to look at my capacity and experience, I am just an unusual candidate as a former senator, former governor and now aspiring to be the president of Nigeria.

“I seek your advice and counsel as stakeholders in this democratic journey. I seek your partnership in my quest to become the Presidential Candidate of our party and to win the general elections in February 2023 for all APC candidates.

“This is not about gaining power. It is about securing good government for the nation. Together, the executive and legislative branches of this democratic tree must strive to cultivate and bring forth goodfruit for the welfare of the people.

“I have the experience, knowledge, vision, and resilience to lead the country.”

He, however, said that “In spite of people stabbing me at the back, my belief in God and determination will see me through.”

Earlier, Tinubu extolled the Senate for its harmonious relationship with the Executive.

“The cordial relationship between the National Assembly and the Executive is something to behold. Democracy does not thrive when both arms are adversarial. More gets accomplished through cooperation than conflict.

“You have passed Landmark legislation such as the Petroleum Industry Act that rationalises nearly every aspect of oil & gas production,” he said.

In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, assured his guest that his colleagues would continue to remain united to ensure the success of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

He also explained that external factors were mainly responsible for the social and economic challenges the country has been facing since the APC took over power in 2019.

He lamented the faceoff between the executive arm of government and the nation’s legislature between 2015 and 2019.

Lawan said, “From 2019 till date, we have achieved so much because we are focused and united.

” Everybody looks up to the APC to save this country come 2023 and we have people who can make this happen within the party.

“President Buhari has provided good leadership which we should leverage upon in 2023. That is why we have to remain committed as party members.

“2023 will be a year of the APC that is why we must all work hard to make this happen.”

Lawan praised the courage of Tinubu in his endeavour, saying “we wish you well in your enterprise and in the course of fighting for the survival of our party, we are with you.”
