Sunday Dare, Bwala join Onanuga as Tinubu’s official spokespersons

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the restructuring of the State House media and communications team, re-designating the roles of Sunday Dare and Daniel Bwala to, alongside Bayo Onanuga, serve as official spokespersons for his administration.

Tribune Online reports that the President recently announced the appointment of Sunday Dare, former Minister of Sports and Youths Development under the former President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as presidential special adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation.

Likewise, President Tinubu last week announced Daniel Bwala, a former critic and spokesman for his main opposition candidate, Atiku Abubaka’s campaign organization during the 2023 presidential elections, as a new addition to his communications team.

Bwala’s addition to the Presidency, which was greeted with mixed reactions from Nigerians, was first disclosed as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communication.

However, in a statement on Monday night, Bayo Onanuga, Special adviser to the president on information and strategy, disclosed that the president has approved the redesignation of the two officials in the State House media and communications team “to enhance efficiency within the government’s communication machinery.”

According to him, Mr Sunday Dare, who was first announced as Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation is now Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications.

Bwala, announced last week as Special Adviser, Media and Public Communication, is now special adviser Policy Communication.

Onanuga, however, stated that with these appointments, along with the existing role of Special Adviser, Information and Strategy, “underscore that there is no single individual spokesperson for the Presidency.

“Instead, all the three Special Advisers will collectively serve as spokespersons for the government.

“This approach aims to ensure effective and consistent communication of government policies, decisions, and engagements,” he added.
